Intended Meaning
Shahrur distinguishes between the Book of the Definitive and the Book of the Ambiguous as two different domains within the Qur’anic structure. Each of them has its own verses of elaboration, so the verses of elaboration are not attached to one of them to the exclusion of the other.
The Atom’s Structure in the Atlas
- Type of argument: Distinguishing
- Movement of the argument: It separates the definitive from the ambiguous and assigns each its own elaboration.
- Central terms: the definitive, the ambiguous, elaboration, Qur’anic structure.
- Degree of centrality: Central.
It prevents the conflation of the two domains and distributes the verses of elaboration according to their type. In this way, the Qur’anic structure is understood as multi-layered rather than a single homogeneous mass.
