Summary of the Thesis

Shahrur distinguishes the verses of the Book’s detail from the verses of the message and the verses of prophethood. They do not carry legislation from the univocal verses, nor cosmic laws or human events from the equivocal verses; rather, they function as an internal indexing of the Book that helps organize the reading.

Foundational Atoms

Place of Support within the Book

This structure appears within the treatment of the Book’s detail, where Shahrur defines the position of the verses of detail negatively: they are neither from the message nor from prophethood, because they do not contain legislation, a cosmic law, or a historical event.

Its Effect on Reading

This structure helps prevent confusion between the function of detail and the function of legislation or tidings. Detail here is an instrument of ordering and indexing, not an independent source of ruling nor material for cosmic interpretation.

Limits of the Reading

This page defines only the position of the verses of detail, and does not negate a detailing of the univocal verses or its relation to the Mother of the Book in other places in the atlas.
